A Scotch by the Dewar trio, with a touch of Macleod’s ingenuity.

John Dewar Sr, the youngest of the Dewar family in Aberfeldy, was able to break free from family obligations and pursue his interests. He established his own company and left his brand to his two sons Johnny and Tommy. They were the ones to push things forward and founded the Aberfeldy Distillery in 1896. Jonn Dewar Jr. was good with numbers, and ensured the Whisky blend was consistently perfect. His brother Thomas Dewar was a keen traveler, who expanded the business worldwide. Nowadays, Bacardi owns the company, letting Dewar continue their legacy and help spread the good Whisky word worldwide.

The newly remastered 12 Year Old Double Aged Blended Scotch Whisky firmly stands at 40% ABV and is filled with plenty of sweet character due to aging for three months in first-fill bourbon casks. As a fortuitous consequence, the Spirit is animated with additional vanilla flavors and toffee sugariness which amplify the Whisky and make it creamier and chewier! Master Distiller Stephanie Macleod got the idea to take this course of action and put Spirits to rest in first-fill Bourbon casks for the Dewar’s 19 year old Championship Edition 2021. It paid off in both cases with the benefit of gaining additional vanilla and enjoyment levels.

While not intense like a single malt, it is much more flavorful than the Dewar's 12 year old. Smooth with a caramel, honey and very light smokey taste. At this price a true bargain.

Nose: mellow, slightly fruity. Taste: little acidic, slight smoke, no burn, lightly wooded, slight caramel, VERY light apple.. Aftertaste: smooth, no burn.

Maybe I should rate it higher, I like peaty and smokey, love Laphroaig. This is a good Scotch for the price, good for those who don't like strong flavors, and one to serve the uninitiated. Would be a good mixer.

This Scotch is amazing for the price. If you like blends it's a masterpiece. Numerous barrels, including Mezcal, create something truly unique and that's why you can't stop drinking it.
