Islands Scotch

Scotland has almost 800 islands, of which only a few are inhabited. But where there are people, there’s Scotch. When distillation was a crime, hiding your enterprise somewhere in the maze of the archipelago was a smart idea. Nowadays, only a handful of distilleries still operate.

The oldest ones are Highland Park and Tobermory, both founded in 1789. Highland Park, by the way, is also the northernmost distillery in Scotland and is known for peaty expressions.

Whiskies from the Islands are primarily smoky, briny and herbal. Talisker, the largest distiller, is known for potent Spirits, Jura makes them oily and nutty, while Scapa bets on fruitiness.
