Bacardi was founded in 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardí Massó in Santiago de Cuba. The Bacardi distilleries are located globally, in Puerto Rico, Mexico, and numerous facilities around the world.
Bacardi Limited is still a family-owned Rum operation, owning 200+ other brands. The Bacardi label lineup is very extensive.
Their range includes their standard White Rum Superior, Gold and Black labels, their Maestro de Ron, and 8-year-old Gran Reserva Rums, as well as their vast array of fruit-flavored expressions.
Currently the largest Rum producer in the world, with distilleries in Puerto Rico (where they also have a large visitor center) and Mexico, along with numerous other facilities across the globe.
Bacardi Limited is still family owned and along with the core Rum business, it also owns some 200+ other brands including Leblon, Grey Goose, Martini, Dewar’s, and Bombay Sapphire.
The company was founded in 1862 by Don Facundo Bacardí Massó in Santiago de Cuba.
The Castro lead revolution meant that the Bacardi family left Cuba in 1960, and whilst they had already started production outside of Cuba, the confiscation of the original facility required a significant period of rebuilding.
Whilst not all the key production details (such as using a specific yeast strain for fermentation, continuous column distillation, and charcoal filtration for color stripping the aged distillate), can be said to have been created by the company.
They very well may have been responsible for some firsts for Rum production, and have certainly been widely adopted by Bacardi’s competitors.
