The essence of the golden age of Rye.

These artisan small batch Whiskey makers set up shop in the Strip District neighborhood of Pittsburgh in 2012, and in case you were wondering, it’s pronounced “wiggle.” As the first distillery to open in the area since the 1920s, the brand is named after Phillip Wigle. But don’t let the cute name fool you this man was anything but, convicted of treason in 1794, and sentenced to hang for his actions during the great Whiskey Rebellion. Quite the rambunctious chap, Wigle was said to have beaten up a tax collector and burned down his house. Only later to be pardoned by George Washington himself. Wigle distillery uses locally sourced, organic grains, distilling their Whiskey from scratch, milling their grains on site.

This straight Rye is a single barrel masterpiece aged for 3 years in new charred oak barrels. Harkening back to a forgotten style of Rye Whiskey: Monongahela Rye.—the gold standard of Whiskey in the 1800s. Monongahela Rye is to Western Pennsylvania what Scotch is to Scotland, and Bourbon is to Kentucky. And when it hits you, an orchestra of robust oak, caramel, and a distinctive black pepper finish baptizes you.
