Jack Teeling founded the Teeling Whiskey Company in 2012, with a mission to challenge the norm by crafting Irish Whiskey with more depth of personality and character than the current mass-market options, and to become Ireland's leading independent Irish Whiskey producer. Jack Teeling comes from a family with a long tradition associated with Irish Whiskey. Take for example the Cooley Distillery, which was founded by John Teeling, and Walter Teeling in 1782 who set up a distillery on Marrowbone Lane in Dublin.
Teeling Small Batch Whiskey is Teeling's attempt to create the most interesting Blended Irish Whiskey. Have they succeeded? The Small Batch is a blend of malt and grain Whiskey, specifically 35% malt and 65% grain, which means it's quite high in malt content (good!). It's bottled without an age statement, however we've found out that they use Whiskeys aged from 4 to 7 years. What makes it extra interesting is a further 6 months of maturation in ex-Flor de Cana Rum casks, which imparts sweet molasses flavors and notes, yet, remains Irish in the core. Fantastic? Oh yes. Teeling is making great progress towards reigniting the craving for Irish Whiskey Worldwide. We applaud.
I loved it when I had only tried Jameson up to that point. I've since upped my Irish Whiskey game, and now it's 'ok'. A good entry-level Irish
Nose was pleasant apple with a some malty notes. Palate had a lot of apple with a smooth, chocolatety mouth feel. Finish had a little bit of spice. Nice, but I had this along with Green Spot and Red Breast, which I thought were better.
really good smooth, pairs good with my cigars
If you are the type like me that would like to rink Whisky all year round, then this might be the one for you as it's nice and light but oh so tasty!
Really good nose and taste. The choclate is a suprise.
Really good, goes down smooth with a hint of sweetness. Good with a good cigar
Really smooth with a sweetness
Not spicy or hot
Apple emerges after a while
It’s really smooth after a period and sweetens. An easy sipper
Good Irish dram, but the finish does not last long. There is a real spicy kick in the beginning but it doesn't develop any further. The taste that you get is great though. This one will get you drunk in a minute if you don't pay attention. Same as Jameson, but then again different...
It is OK. Somewhat harsh.
I do like the high alcohol content though.
Taste profile of a much more expensive whiskey
I think it is now one of my favorite whiskeys. Very smooth and enjoyable.
Instant favorite. Super smooth. Very easy to distinguish an apple background. Prefect level of sweet. A perfect sipper. Add ice for a summer drink.
I first found Teeling on a trip to Ireland. I visited the distillery and fell in love with their whisky. Very smooth, easy to drink at a great price point. Have not had a bad Teeling yet.
Might have left my bottle a little too long but I found it a bit bland for my my taste. A solid kick with good mouth feel but aftertaste is not as great.
This Bottle was a typical whiskey, there was nothing Especial in it.
Very tasty...sharp irish whiskey.
Pretty good at the price point but would rather spend a bit more for Redbreast or Green spot.
Has a fruity smell and taste from the rum barrel. A nice flavor which is smooth and light. Enjoyed it over ice.
Surprisingly bright and smooth but has a personality. I like it a lot.
Pretty good version, light and smooth. Not too special, but good. Wife thought it tasted like alcohol - not a fan.
A little harsher than I expected, considering it's aged in rum casks, but it smoothed out well. A couple of ice cubes really opened up the subtler flavors.
Solid. Smooth and enjoyable. Excellent for the price.
Beautifully balanced and smooth, though maybe a touch too sugary.
Smoothest, drinking Irish Whiskey I have ever enjoyed. I cannot keep enough around.
I’m giving this 10 stars. It is light, yummy and so easy to drink.
So much Apple
One of my all time favorite whiskeys
A bit sharp, but a good Irish whiskey.
I'm new to Irish Whiskey. Man, did i enjoy this! I'm not a fancy pants reviewer. The bottom line is this...i smell cherries and taste awesomeness! It's pretty smooth too.
Since visiting the Teeling factory in Dublin I have been in love with this brand. I have probably gone through every bottle they have released.
I’d say this is a nice staple for the cabinet but by no means their best. Just an easy drinking whiskey that you can enjoy if you don’t want to fork out for the brabazon, stout cask or my favourite single cask bottle pulled at the factory straight from the cask and signed by John Teeling himself
It’s the best perfect balance tasting Whiskey.
Color is a light amber. Nose is grassy, not very sweet, with notes of vanilla and very subtle fruit notes. First sip is mellow and yet has a little bite at the same time. Notes of fresh grass again shine, with a nice slightly oily mouthfeel. The flavors blend into a tight mesh, starting with an every so slightly sweet and creamy malty note, then transitioning to grassy smoothness washed in baking spices that linger all the way through the finish, which is nice and long, staying with you for an extended period. Overall this is an excellent Whiskey. While the individual notes are a little hard to pick out, the overall flavor profile is greater than the sum of the parts.
Nose: Cut grass and orange blossom. Allspice, hints of vanilla, apple pie and blackberries.
Palate: Spiced, rich palate with rose petal jelly and lemon curd. Creamy vanilla, hints of dried herbs and cinnamon.
Finish: Floral, herbal finish. Caramel on the tail.
Overall: A deliciously creamy, spicy and rich Irish blend.
Had high hopes and expectations for this, but it came across as young and brash with that young make astringency (think nail polish remover). Gave it time to breathe. Gave it several more chances. Just doesn't do it for me. On the positive side, it had a clear clean crisp taste of an Irish whiskey. Try a 10-ml sip.
A nice step between a Jameson and a Redbreast, this is an everyday whiskey with a smooth sweet finish.
Excellent choice, not incredibly uncommon, but definitely worth the cost.
Great nose and a bouquet of flavor for such a clean mouthfeel. An absolute pleasure neat, and a drop of water really opens up the notes. An exceptional whiskey from a distillery that is doing great things.
Very good on the nose and a tsunami of smoke flavor i love this stuff
Possibly the best Irish whiskey I've had to date. Smooth, full of flavor, no bite, and complex.
A delightful and affordable scotch. Light and airy, with a subtle sweet finish.
I actually liked sipping this neat. I certainly agree with the tasting notes on this one, especially the apple. I bought this for Irish coffee for St. Patrick’s Day. Tested it out with a cup of coffee. Wise choice.
Loved it, my new go to Irish Whiskey!
Top two favorite Irish whiskeys. Smooth with a touch of sweetness and the rum cask finish puts it over the edge.
Surprising Irish Whiskey - flavorful & smooth. It's like what Jameson would taste like if they didn't spend so much time messing it up.
I'll be buying this again, and soon.
Solid everyday drinker with sweet finish.
Sweeter. Some Lillie on the front. More florals on the finish
A damn fine Irish. Definitely a step above your basic Jameson or Tullamore DEW. The extra finishing in the rum casks shines through with a sweetness that accompanies but doesn’t steal the spot light.
Love Teeling -- their other whiskies are even better, but hard to find outside of Ireland.
Wow. Really into Teeling's whiskeys. This one is fantastic. Lots of apple/fruit to taste.
A smidge at first, nice finish
A great whiskey that can be sipped or mixed to equal delight. The rum finish makes it especially smooth. My go to "low cost" whiskey, when I am looking for something better than a Jameson but not looking to break the piggy bank.
Apple pie in a glass of whiskey. The combination of flavors and low cost makes this a staple in my whiskey bar.
A very smooth sip with a great mouthfeel and just a bit of burn
A little to much alcoholic aftertaste for my taste but I can taste the hints of vanilla and caramel from the rum.
Its nice but there are better ones.
My favorite Irish whiskey. You don't have to think about it--you just drink.
Nice smooth and a little fruity.
I find most Irish Whiskey to be a bit harsh and expect that. This bottle aged in rum casks is a very pleasant sipping whiskey and most guests are quite pleased with the flavor.
Delicious - my wife loves that it’s sweet and the spice doesn’t knock ur socks off at the finish. Very enjoyable.
I was happily surprised by the Teeling Small Batch. It is a sweet whiskey, with a strong taste of vanilla and apple crumble. Easy to appreciate and lovely to share.
I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth and flavorful this whiskey was. This will be a permanent fixture in my home bar, keeping the bourbon company.
Great Irish Whisky but I don’t think it is complex enough for my taste.
The notes added by the rum cask make this a smooth drink. I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy this, but I think the non-chill filtered process makes for a robust flavor.
Nice...a great first whiskey. This is coming from a confirmed bourbon fan.
Taste is amazing! A little spicy but wonderful flavors to accompany it! It is one that I will have in my cabinet all the time!
MOST EXCELLENT. AROMA IS EXCELLENT AND THE TASTE IS LIKE SIPPING A DREAM.
Smooth and a little spicy. A medium finish. Tastes fantastic in an Irish Coffee.
At first tasting, I wasn't a huge fan (I was tasting several other whiskeys and I didn't think it could match up well against the other)...After a second revisit, I warmed up to it.
Overall a smooth taste and smooth finish. Light taste, nothing overwhelming. Definitely a good, casual whiskey.
We didn't intend to drink more than half the bottle, but it went down so, so, so easy...and so we did. Super-smooth on the front, with just a little bite on the back, this is a VERY drinkable whiskey.
This Irish whisky is incredibly smooth. It’s full of very pleasant flavors. I find them to be just sweet enough to make this a great everyday go to drink. It’s not as good as my favorite scotch’s, but very close. For the price it’s definitely worth trying and it’s a keeper in my cabinet.
Love this whiskey! It's a nice alternative to my Scotch obsession.
An absolute favorite of mine.
This is a perfectly smooth drink to pair with a conversation amongst family and friends.
It is gentle enough that everyone will enjoy it though it has a wonderful set of flavors to be appreciated by those who will.
Outstanding. Very smooth and an enjoyable easy drinking dram.
I would have given it a 10 but it would need a bit more "kick" to it, but then it would not be as smooth.
Love it. This is one of my staples since my wife brought it back from Dublin!
Smooth with nice finish. Good pour for the price
I really like this! My wife brought some back from Ireland because she thought I'd like it. I guess she knows my taste. Smooth and "sipable" with lots of character. A bit young but all a part of it's charm.
Smooth as Ireland!
A great pour for the price!
Smooth and sweet up front with a nice clean finish.
good price and actually tastes good
Super whiskey, one that I have bought on multiple occasions.
Great taste for a great price.
Smooth, uncomplicated ... a pleasant sipping whiskey, though a little young and slightly thick.
Top quality Irish Whiskey with smooth floral notes.
Not my favorite. Seems too young.
fine as you can get smooth !
Easily one of the finest whiskey's I've ever had.
Smooth. Refreshing. Sippable
Creamy honey, crisp apples and sweet, malty pastry crust finish. Will keep this around as an everyday Irish.
