This isn’t a "serve it on the Vegas Strip in a plastic tube" thing… it’s a "holy crap this good stuff so get the special crystal" kind of thing.

SelvaRey means "Jungle King" in Spanish. Their website lists the founders as "three brothers and Bruno Mars." OK… you probably know who Bruno Mars is. The "three brothers" cryptically referenced are Seth and Marc Gold and their brother-in-law Robert Herzig. Seth had some success as a song writer — where he came to know Bruno Mars. Anyway… they all like Rum and decided to joint venture. Next thing you know — in the words of Bruno Mars — "Bang Bang Gorilla" a new Rum is born. And sure enough, their logo is the silhouette of a gorilla. But SelvaRey Rums ain’t just celebrity-endorsed marketing hype. They are premium Rums from the jungles of central Panama crafted by legendary Master Blender Francisco "Don Pancho" Fernandez. They currently have two varieties, a White Rum and the unique Chocolate Rum.

So, you might be thinking, "flavored Rum… been there, Captain Morgan’d that." SelvaRey Chocolate Rum is NOT crappy Rum hidden behind a cinnamon stick or coconut extract. And it has the awards to prove it — it became the first flavored Rum to receive the prestigious Chairman's Trophy at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge, and was given 95 Points from The Tasting Panel Magazine.

SelvaRey Chocolate Rum is a premium Rum aged in Bourbon barrels — 5 YO — and infused with natural chocolate. No, that does not mean it is a "chocolate-candy Rum" or anything close to it. Think of it more like a tropical Gin… where the base is premium Rum and the botanical is chocolate. Or as a rich, full-bodied Rum that redefines the category. No matter how your drink it, this is a Treasure that will make you feel like you’ve been Locked Out if Heaven for too long.

Rum is why we measure alcohol proof. To make sure Rum wasn’t watered down, it had to be ‘proven’ by soaking gunpowder with it. If it was ‘overproof’ (higher than 57.15 % vol.), then the gunpowder would ignite, but if it wouldn’t, it was ‘underproof.’
Rum is a sugar cane based spirit, primarily made in the Caribbean and Latin America, but you can really find Rum in many corners of the world.
Next time you have a tipple of Rum you can say that you're tapping the Admiral. This intriguing phrase comes from the great Admiral Nelson who was killed in the battle of Trafalgar off of Spain. The story is that his body was preserved in Rum to be shipped back to England but, when the barrel arrived, some of the Rum was missing and said to have been siphoned off by some desperate or unknowing sailors. It's a great story but most likely false.
If the center of our galaxy had a signature scent, it would be Rum. Yup, astronomers studying a giant cloud in the Milky Way found a substance called ethyl formate, a chemical that smells suspiciously like Rum.
Rum used to be accepted as a form of currency in Europe and Australia, a practice we should probably bring back into fashion.
You might find Rum masquerading itself under other nom de plumes, like Ron, Rom and Rhum.
