A cool and earthy Blanco Avila that is a Tequila in everything but name.

Tequila is actually the name of a town in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. The agave Spirit that we all love was named after that town, which sits at the center of Tequila production. By legal definition, Tequila can only be made from Weber Blue Agave in the state of Jalisco and a handful of neighboring towns. By legal definition, ANY agave Spirit made outside of that region cannot be called Tequila. Agave Spirits from other places can use any variety of agave they want and are usually called Mezcal. But what if you made a premium Weber Blue Agave Spirit to the highest standards — just like Tequila — but you were a few miles south of the official boundaries in the Morales district? Revel Spirits calls these "Avila" and was founded in 2012 to bring these Spirits to market for the first time.

Revel Avila Blanco is the base Spirit supporting the entire Revel range of Avila Spirits. It has all the attributes a Tequila-lover is looking for. But they do something a bit special in the roasting process. Half of the Weber Blue Agave piñas are roasted dry over volcanic stones, and half are steamed. Most producers choose one or the other. So, even though this Spirit is triple-distilled it retains a complex character of both cool citrus and earthy smoked herbs — kind of Tequila-Gin-ish if that makes sense.

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma has notes of roasted bell peppers, lemon zest, warm butter, arugula, and peanuts.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
We wish we could call it a Tequila, but we can’t, so we’ll call it very Tequila-like with a rich mouth-feel and notes of cilantro, succulents, mint, white pepper, and a hit of zest.

Finish
The finish is clean, warm, and herbal.

Loved this Blanco, it is super...

Loved this Blanco, it is super smooth but also has some nice subtle smoky and earthy notes from the dual-production method. Would definitely recommend!
