A rebirth of the true British Navy Rum.

Back when the British Navy was the mightiest seafaring force the World has ever seen, the sailors received a government-issued daily tot of Navy Strength Rum. You know, for courage and, um, thirst? Anyway, until the Queen decided in 1970 that giving Rum to armed men on active duty was a tad irresponsible, a Navy officer called Pusser was in charge of supplying the grit Spirit. On July 31 of said year, the final tot was issued, but nearly a decade later, Charles Tobias obtained the rights to the recipe of the famous Navy Rum: a careful blend of five West Indian Rums with a proper punch.

Now, Pusser released a Navy-inspired blend with a new recipe that spent a decade and a half in charred oak barrels (the Rum, not the recipe). The new concoction replaced the now unavailable 15-year-old Rum sourced by Trinidad Distillers with a similar Spirit from Guyana. The best Rum in the World thus went through an overhaul, with a rebranding to match it. The rebirth has tropical aromas of Demerara sugar, molasses, and dried fruits, with a lovely spicy nose. 3,000 cases were made, and the Rum is bottled at 40% ABV. If there ever was a sipping Rum, this is it. Ahoy!

Rum is a sugar cane based spirit, primarily made in the Caribbean and Latin America, but you can really find Rum in many corners of the world.
Rum used to be accepted as a form of currency in Europe and Australia, a practice we should probably bring back into fashion.
Rum (usually) comes from molasses, the sweet and syrupy residue of refining sugarcane into sugar. Molasses is over 50% sugar, but it also contains significant amounts of minerals and other trace elements, contributing to the final flavor.
Mount Gay Rum is the oldest existing Rum company in the World dating back to 1705. This is also the year Guy Fawkes tried to blow up Britain’s Parliament.
You might find Rum masquerading itself under other nom de plumes, like Ron, Rom and Rhum.
Common Rum classifications: White, Golden or Amber, Dark, Spiced, Añejo and Age-Dated Rums.
