At Woody Creek Distillers, every whiskey begins with Colorado. Nestled in Basalt at 6,600 feet above sea level in the Roaring Fork Valley, the distillery embraces a true farm to still philosophy. Nearly all of its grain is grown within 250 miles of the distillery, then milled, mashed, fermented, distilled, aged, and bottled entirely on-site using Rocky Mountain water. This commitment to local agriculture and complete in-house production creates whiskeys that are unmistakably Colorado. Woody Creek continues to showcase how regional ingredients and hands-on craftsmanship can define every bottle.
Straight 100% Rye Whiskey pushes rye to its fullest potential. Crafted entirely from Colorado-grown Elbon rye and matured for more than five years in new American oak, it delivers bold layers of black pepper, orchard fruit, citrus peel, caramel, oak, and herbal complexity in a whiskey that is both robust and remarkably balanced.
Colorado Straight Bourbon Whiskey showcases Woody Creek's signature Colorado mash bill of dent corn, Elbon rye, and malted barley. Aged for more than five years in new charred American oak, it delivers notes of vanilla, honey, toasted oak, and gentle rye spice while allowing the locally grown grain to take center stage.
Colorado High Rye 70/30 Bourbon Whiskey offers a bold take on bourbon by increasing the rye content to 30%, creating a whiskey that balances caramel sweetness with lively baking spice and black pepper. Aged for 5 to 7 years in new American oak barrels, it bridges the richness of bourbon with the vibrant character of rye.
Together these three expressions demonstrate how one distillery can create remarkably different whiskeys while remaining true to the same land, ingredients, and uncompromising production philosophy.
SMARTASS CORNER
- Colorado's high elevation creates greater day-to-night temperature swings, encouraging whiskey to expand and contract through the barrel more frequently during maturation.
- Bourbon must be aged in new charred American oak barrels. Once used, those barrels often begin a second life aging Scotch, Irish whiskey, rum, tequila, and other spirits.
- Woody Creek distills its whiskey using custom-built German CARL stills designed to produce a clean spirit while preserving grain character.
- With 30% rye in the mash bill, Woody Creek's High Rye Bourbon delivers considerably more spice than a traditional bourbon while still qualifying as bourbon because it contains more than 51% corn.
- Woody Creek's Straight Bourbon earned a Gold Medal at the 2025 Los Angeles Spirits Competition.
- The distillery's Straight Bourbon is distilled entirely on-site in Basalt, Colorado, with no contract distillation or outsourcing.
- While U.S. regulations require only 51% rye to label a whiskey as rye whiskey, Woody Creek uses 100% Colorado-grown Elbon rye in this expression.
- Woody Creek's Straight Rye earned Platinum at the 2025 Los Angeles Spirits Competition, along with Gold at both the 2025 ASCOT Awards and the 2025 SIP Awards.
- Elbon rye is an heirloom-style winter rye known for producing bold pepper, spice, and earthy complexity, making it a favorite among craft distillers.
