Pennsylvania-style.

These artisan small batch Whiskey makers set up shop in the Strip District neighborhood of Pittsburgh in 2012, and in case you were wondering, it’s pronounced “wiggle.” As the first distillery to open in the area since the 1920s, the brand is named after Phillip Wigle. But don’t let the cute name fool you this man was anything but, convicted of treason in 1794, and sentenced to hang for his actions during the great Whiskey Rebellion. Quite the rambunctious chap, Wigle was said to have beaten up a tax collector and burned down his house. Only later to be pardoned by George Washington himself. Wigle distillery uses locally sourced, organic grains, distilling their Whiskey from scratch, milling their grains on site.

When pre-prohibition distillers all throughout Pennsylvania, had run out of their preferred rye grain, they would distill Spirits made from corn mash. Consider this organic Pennsylvania Bourbon a part of this regional legacy. This wheated Spirit is crafted from local organic yellow dent corn, organic soft winter wheat, and malted barley. You’ll find it is exceptionally sweet on the nose with a pleasant brown sugar note. A pour in a snifter glass reveals a mineral-y earthiness and baking spice flavors of clove and vanilla. Wigle’s Pennsylvania Bourbon aims to please when served neat or on the rocks.
