Summery oak-inspired Rye from NYC.
Widow Jane. An interesting name and an even more interesting distillery. The distillery comes out of Red Hook, Brooklyn. All the Widow Jane products are distilled and proofed with water from the limestone caves of the legendary Rosendale Mines of NY. The special chemical properties of the water give their artisan Spirits the base to really do their own thing. And thatβs what the company is all about. They set out to make their products using only the best possible ingredients and the most innovative techniques to come out with the finest results possible. And the water isnβt the only thing sourced locally β all the grains come from the nearby farms. Eco-friendly booze, baby!
Rye is a sweet thing when it comes fresh from the still and itβs the barrel that brings the wonderful spiciness. Widow Jane has a trick where new oak staves are placed inside barrels that used to hold 10YO Bourbon. The clever woody combination makes the this New Yorker Spirit summery and light, perfect for cocktails.
Smartass Corner:
Rosendale Mines of NY havenβt been mined in almost 50 years, but be it far from abandoned this reservoir has been reincarnated as a recording studio, a trout nursery, a hiking/biking destination, a performance venue, a mushroom farm, and of course a damn good supplier of Whiskey water.
