Tullamore’s signature Original Irish Whiskey finished in apple Cider barrels for a fruit-forward gem.

The Tullamore Distillery was founded by Michael Molloy on the outskirts of Tullamore, County Offaly, Ireland, in 1829. It was passed on to his son who hired Daniel E. Williams to be general manage. That was a good decision. Williams built the company up into a great success. The company and brand have changed hands a few times over the years, and the distillery was — for a time — moved away from the town it is named after. But William Grant & Sons purchased the company in 2010 and built a brand new distillery in Tullamore with a visitor center in one of the original bonded warehouses.

We want to be clear about this. Tullamore D.E.W. Cider Cask Finish Irish Whiskey is NOT a “flavored” Irish Whiskey. It’s actually a hidden gem of sophisticated Irish craftsmanship. They take their famous Original Spirit and finish it in oak casts that were used to press and ferment apple cider. This little genius move accentuates and compliments the natural fruit tones in the spirit and really do a number on the fragrance. And for some reason, if ever there was an Irish Whiskey to pair with dark chocolate, this is it.

Smartass Corner:
The DEW or D.E.W. is the company name comes from the initials of the general manager of the distillery who would eventually go on to purchase it — Daniel E. Williams.
