Do your next Manhattan a favor and mix it with this Irish Single Malt, aged in ex-Sherry. Now, let’s try to decipher the name first. A sexton is usually a church officer who takes care of the church property.

So, someone who’s a gatekeeper of sacred things – but also someone who is charged with the digging of graves. (We’re guessing this is the reason for all the skeleton references, like the skull on this extravagant, hexagonal, high-end bottle.)

Sexton is also the word that could be used to describe the Irish Master Blender Alex Thomas, one of the few female Master Distillers in the game, who gatekeeps gorgeous Irish Whiskey and who also made this one.

The Sexton Single Malt is an Irish Whiskey – created in Ireland under the hands of the magnificent Alex Thomas and distributed in the U.S. by Proximo Spirits, it soon became one of the best-selling Irish Single Malt in America.

Triple distilled in copper pot stills from 100% unpeated malted barley and then aged for 4 years in ex-Sherry butts, it’s bottled at 80 proof. Let us translate that for you – the character is silky smooth, but at the same time bursting with rich, fruity and spicy oaky flavors. It’s really just screaming for a perfect Manhattan.

It’s ok but not my favorite....

It’s ok but not my favorite. Yes, I bought it for the bottle. It’s spicier than I expected (I prefer sweeter, creamier, smoother spirits) and very dry. I’m not surprised at all to read that it’s aged in sherry barrels, as my very first thought upon tasting was…wine? And oak? I don’t have much of a sweet tooth when it comes to food but I do prefer my drinks on the sweet side. Someone who prefers their drinks on the dry side will probably love this. I still enjoyed it, it just wasn’t my preference.

Exceptional Value

The Sexton is a supreme value whiskey. Very cool packaging aside, this whiskey deliveres pears and apples on the nose and brown sugar, marzipan and roasted wood in the taste. At its price point it is more affordable and superior to many more expensive Irish whiskies.
