A beautiful five year-old Rum from Barbados with a beautiful texture and full palate.
"The Real McCoy" — this phrase has become synonymous with authenticity and quality. Bailey Pryor is a writer and documentary filmmaker who was researching the man behind the phrase — a Rumrunner named Bill McCoy who skirted the edges of the law during Prohibition. The 2012 documentary was titled "The Real McCoy" and it won Bailey five Emmy Awards. But he wasn’t done. He went back to Barbados and struck a deal with Richard Seale of the famous Foursquare Distillery to develop a line of rich, unadulterated Rums that would make ‘ol Bill McCoy proud.
The Real McCoy 5 Year Old Rum is the Rum that Bailey Pryor started with. It’s the core Spirit that serves as the real and sentimental foundation for the entire lineup. Like its sisters, it is a blend of column and pot distilled Rums from Barbados that’s been aged for five years in ex-Bourbon casks. And true to the ethos of ‘ol Bill McCoy, it’s produced with no added sugars, flavorings, perfumes, or chemical stabilizers. That makes this easy sipper about as authentic as you can get.
SmartassCorner:
Bill McCoy would take his boat to the Caribbean and return to New York loaded with Rum. He’d park the boat strategically — just over the three-mile limit to stay in international waters. He never watered down or added flavorings to his contraband, which earned him a reputation for quality… his products were "The Real McCoy" and his customers would come to him.
Appearance / Color
Dark Maple
Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma has a note of raw Toll house cookie dough over banana chips, charred oak, and warm soil.
Flavor / Taste / Palate
The palate has a lovely texture and a well-balanced flavor profile with notes of roasted almonds, caramel, Ceylon cinnamon, brown butter, and toasted oak.
Finish
The finish is medium length with warm notes of coconut and tobacco leaf.
