A classic two-wood Single Malt from The Macallan delivered in a strictly limited edition at 55% ABV.
Founded in 1824, The Macallan is one of the "Big 3" Single Malts in Scotland. Fortunately, they have achieved this scale without sacrificing quality. A change in UK labeling laws aced them out of their "Speyside" designation. But just because the British Parliament gerrymandered the "official" boundaries doesn’t mean Whisky-lovers have to pay any attention.
Their achievements are numerous — including setting the record price ever paid at auction for a single bottle of Scotch. They produce a very broad range of world-class Single Malt Whiskies that have a huge global following.
The Classic Cut series from The Macallan was designed to deliver limited edition explorations of unique flavor experiences that maintain The Macallan signature style. 2020 marks the fourth annual release, and each one goes fast.
Senior Whisky-maker Polly Logan created The Macallan Classic Cut 2020 Edition by hand selecting casks of their classic Single Malt aged in Sherry cask and Bourbon barrels and delivered it at a high proof — 55% ABV. At that strength it stands up to ice but is still smooth and lovingly sweet on the palate with a bit of ginger heat.
Appearance / Color
Bright Mahogany
Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma is signature The Macallan with the addition of Bourbon notes, so look for marmalade, vanilla, sultanas, toasted oak, and caramel.
Flavor / Taste / Palate
The palate blooms with ginger spice, more oranges, toffee pudding, and wood spice.
Finish
The finish is warm with a smooth after-burn of glowing herbs.
