George Smith was running an illegal still on the estate of the Duke of Gordon in the wee early 1800’s — who he supplied with the occasional dram. The Duke sponsored legislation in 1823 that made Whisky distilling legal in the UK, it just so happens that George Smith was the first one granted a license.
Today Glenlivet is one of the "Big Three" Single Malt producers. Their Whiskies are Speyside and the water for the mash comes famously from "Josie’s Well" nearby. Glenlivet produces a wide variety of Single Malt agings and cask combinations, with the remaining Spirit an indispensable component in some of the most famous blends.
Glenlivet is the go-to Single Malt in quality bars worldwide. Every bottle is always jolly-good stuff. But what happens if you take your signature Single Malt and finish some of it in ex-Rum casks from the Caribbean?
Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve IS that dram. And what you get is a floral, fruit-forward Highlander with exotic notes percolating to the top of the palate in creamy tones of banana, melon, and mandarins. You might just have found the summertime dram of the year.
