How about some romance?
The Balvenie distillery in Dufftown, Scotland, likes to do things in a good old way. It was founded by Willian Grant, a former bookkeeper in Mortach distillery. Enchanted by the world of Malts, he had a dream to once own a distillery of its own. And so in 1982, he drew plans to convert an old 18-century mansion Balvenie New House into a distillery, and he made his first whisky a year later.
The distillery has never changed owners and is still in the possession of William Grant and Sons. It is the only distillery in Scotland that still grows its own Barley, uses the traditional floor Maltings and even keeps a Coppersmith and a team of Coopers on the site. Oh yes, the Balvenie is one of those who will take their time to do things right from the get go, and never half-ass anything. Lucky for us!
It is said that there was a special rose on the Balvenie castle. One that was so beautiful, vibrant and rare it was the only rent King James II would accept from a widow who occupied the castle. An old Malt Master, David C Stewart, the One Who Created the Process of Wood Finishing, got inspired by the legendary rose and set out to make a Whisky just as vibrant and elegant as the rose itself. He succeeded. Sweet romance of the first Red Rose became legendary and now, the Second Red Rose is presented. Finished in Australian Shiraz casks, it has an elegant and vibrant flavor, filled with notes of ripe fruit and soft spice. And just like that, a new legend is born.
