Some argue, but since the original distillery building on this site dates from 1775, most folks consider Buffalo Trace Distillery to be the oldest continually operating distillery in the US. It sits on the banks of the Ohio River in Frankfort, Kentucky, on the same 150 acres — completing 245 years of continuous operation. It even used the: "medicinal" loophole to operate during Prohibition. Now owned by Sazerac, it’s history includes a veritable Who’s-Who of historic Bourbon owners and Master Distillers who continue today to craft some of the finest and most popular Whiskey brands in America.
The George T. Stagg line of Bourbons is named after one of the most famous owners and master distillers in the Buffalo Trace lineage. And it is one of their top-line Spirits. As the name would imply, Stagg Jr. is cut from the same cloth, but a few years younger on average. Stagg Jr. Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch 8 can be hard to quantify for those same reasons. As a barrel proof, it is delivered uncut and completely unfiltered. So the ABV/proof and nuances of the flavor profile will vary from batch-to-batch. And Batch 8 is a real winner clocking in at a blistering 64.75% ABV of awesome — so we recommend a splash of water or a single cocktail cube to open things up.
It’s like cracking open a private cask in the rickhouse all for yourself.
