Different but good

I've been drinking Japanese whiskey for a while, but this one caught me off guard. The style is a little different from what I used to or expect to get from Japanese whiskey, but the taste is more complex. It's a little floral with a hint of rice flavor, but then it ends with honey and chocolatey notes. Overall, it was a pleasant try.

I tried it straight and made it into a highball. My family loves the highball as well.

Makes a very smooth highball🥃

I ran into this whiskey here and I as a Japanese who's a sucker for whiskey thought to give this a shot for my friend's birthday.
I topped this off with club soda to make my favorite highball and it came out so smoothly and mellow that all my buddies devoured it in an instant!

I wonder if it makes a great cocktail but I'm inclined to try it next time.

Ok. Decent nose. Definitely okay, woody. Floral but not in the best way. Not my favorite Japanese whisky by a long shot.

New to Whiskey tasting

But this really wasn't it. Tastes like rice boiled in alcohol. A lot of burn, not a lot of taste. Maybe some floral notes (Jasmin maybe ?) but overall not something I would like more than a tasing vial of.

Maybe in a cocktail

I'm not sophisticated enough with my whiskey palate to properly identify the flavor elements that I didn't care for, but perhaps it was the floral notes and some other spice that I couldn't identify (but seemed familiar) adequately. The tasting notes indicated "oak" which to me tasted like an oak leaf rather than oak wood. Was it Bay Leaf I was tasting? Maybe. I just couldn't get my head around it.

With that in mind, this whiskey might work in a cocktail that would provide additional flavors to balance the floral and leaf tastes. If someone were to give me a bottle, I might experiment.
