Back in the middle of the 19th Century, when the Civil War ended, the Ripy Bros returned from the battlefields to their hometown of Lawrenceburg. They picked the slopes of Wild Turkey Hill as a place for their new distillery. It was closed for a short period during the Prohibition and in 1954, it started operating under the guardianship of Jimmy Russell, the 'Buddha of Bourbon'. He knows Bourbon like he knows breathing and Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon is an amazing result of his talent.
After the distillation, they mature the Bourbon in the deepest #4 "alligator" char. Now, charring of barrels also serves as filtration and the No. 4 char is the highest level where the barrel is charred for almost a minute (which is a lot). And when your barrel is basically lined with carbon, it filters unwanted compounds found in young whiskey. Rest assured, this Bourbon is clean as heck.
All the fuss pays off, naturally: this Bourbon is subtle with notes of cinnamon and oak, balanced with undertones of vanilla and honey. The finish is deep and rich. And that's how you will feel after taking a sip of this lovely Spirit.
