Once dubbed "the King of the Lowlands", the 1840-established Rosebank Distillery was shut down in 1993, and for the longest time, it looked like it wouldn't ever open again. But in 2017 Ian MacLeod reopened this cult Spiritual place and released some of the old stocks.
This Rosebank 30-Year-Old is a 1990 vintage Lowland Single Malt, a vatting of refill Sherry butts (62%) and refill Bourbon hogsheads (38%), matured for no less than three decades, before being bottled in 2020. The result is a complex, yet elegant Whisky with soft notes of Chantilly cream, caramel wafers, gooseberry, almonds, honey, lemon, and nutmeg on the nose, and notes of chamomile, pears, citrus fruit, and pineapple on the palate.
A superb release, worthy of its royal heritage.
