The Douglas Laing Company was founded in 1948 by — you guessed it — Douglas Laing. They have a stellar reputation as one of the leading independent bottlers of Scotch Whisky in the United Kingdom. They started as by purchasing single casks of fine single malts. Then the grew to create their own blends. Now they even commission small batch production from some the finest Whisky makers in Scotland and a few small shops too. This has allowed them to develop a solid range of private-label products to round out the offerings.
They added the Rock Oyster to their range of blended malt Whiskies in 2015. As its name would imply, this is solidly an island-style Whisky made up of single malts from Islay, Jura, Orkney, and Arran. If you know your Scotch, then you know what to expect from this combination — a savory, salty, and peaty dram with a nice hit of smoke on the way in and on the way out. It is truly a wonderful blend that whispers the sea in every sip. And with no artificial coloring or chill-filtration, this spirit is as true as a sailor’s knot — and just as strong.
