California residents: Click here for Proposition 65 Warning.

A rich, complex, stunning example of well-aged premium Bourbon finished in Mizunara casks at cask strength.

Rabbit Hole Distillery was founded in 2014 by Kaveh Zamanian — a transplant from Chicago — who fell in love with a woman and a Whiskey at the same time. Starting as most do with sources Spirit, he made his way toward a full distillery and entertainment venue in the NuLu district of Louisville and they have a spectacular new still on the way. And things have been going so well that Pernod Ricard acquired a majority interest in June of this year (2019). And with that comes a wave of newly refined products and updated branding, naming each Spirit in their core lineup after a prominent Louisville citizen.

Kaveh Zamanian created the Founder’s Collection to be a series of uncompromising limited edition releases. So, when he calls Rabbit Hole Founder's Collection: Mizunara Cask Strength his oldest and most exquisite offering to date, that’s saying something.

This dram is a blend of ten rare, fifteen year-old Kentucky Bourbons. Once married, the Spirit is re-casked into new Mizunara oak barrels to finish for another full year. To complete this opulent package, it’s bottled at a full cask strength of 57.1% ABV in only 1,403 sequentially-numbered decanters within a wood presentation box … no compromises.

Smartass Corner:
“Going down a rabbit hole” means never-ending studying, researching, or creating something to the point of obsession. It’s a reference to Alice In Wonderland. Kaveh Zamanian considers distilling his personal trip down the Rabbit Hole and that’s how the company got its name.

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma is thick with exotic tones of plantain, dried cherries, apples and pears, cracked peppercorns, and mint over a dash of vanilla flan.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
On the plate we discovered cinnamon-vanilla flan up front followed by warm tobacco leaves, brown butter, currant jam, butterscotch, more black pepper spice, and some nice florals.

Finish
The finish is long, buttery, and warm with the fruit tones remaining.
