A Single Barrel, Cask Strength version of Boston Harbor Distilleryβs signature Rye Spirit.Β
Rhonda KallmanΒ is a sharp, savvy businesswoman. She was a founding partner ofΒ The Boston Beer CompanyΒ β famous for theirΒ Samuel Adams Boston LagerΒ andΒ Angry Orchard Hard Cider, among other beverages. She went on to found New Century Brewing. Her story was even featured in the 2009 movie "Beer Wars." And then in 2011 she foundedΒ Boston Harbor Distillery, building out her stills in a historic 1859 brick warehouse in the Harbor District where the team makes Whiskey, Rum, Liqueurs, and other Spirits.
Putnam New England Single Barrel Cask Strength Rye is the same, brilliant Rye expression at the core of the Putnam lineup. So, letβs review those specs. The mash bill is 95% malted rye and 5% malted two-row barley. Itβs re-distilled and placed in new, deeply-charred 200-liter barrels. The difference is that this edition is bottled right out of the barrel with limited filtration. That means that the flavor profile will change a bit from cask to cask and the ABV is whatever it is β usually somewhere around 59% ABV.
Smartass Corner:
With a history of Spirit-making in Boston, beginning with Samuel Adams Lager, Rhonda still has a patriotic bent. Weβre not sure how she arranged it, but Boston Harbor Distillery owns a Vendome copper pot still that has the registered serial number "1776."
