James Power was an innkeeper in Dublin. In 1791 he decided to take some of his profits and start his own distillery. Thus, John’s Lane Distillery at Thomas Street was born. The company grew and was very successful, so as soon as he was of age, his son John joined the family business, thus John Power and Son became the official name.
They innovated and expanded greatly on their way to becoming the most popular Whiskey in the world. In fact, POWERS was one of the first distilleries in the world — and the very first in Ireland — to start bottling their own Spirit in 1886. Up until then, Whiskey was sold by the cask.
Powers John Lane is consistently described as one of the best Irish Whiskeys created. It typifies Irish Whiskey in a truly classic way. It is a celebration of the original "Pot Still Whiskey" that was produced at John's Lane Distillery. Tripple-distilled in copper pot stills, Powers John Lane is then matured a minimum of 12 years in second-fill and third-fill American oak casks, while a small portion (6%) of distillate is aged for a year in Oloroso Sherry butts. This Whiskey is all about balance in ways rarely seen in the category.
*Powers has recently changed their labels, and as the original labels are being phased out, there is still a chance that you might receive a bottle different than what is pictured. But rest assured, the liquid remains the same, regardless of the label.
