A high-Spirited, three year-old Rye with perfume aromas and a classic flavor profile.
The story of Pinhook Whiskey starts in 2014 with its first release. You see, each fall the folks in the newly restored Castle & Key Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, create a single batch of Bourbon and a single batch of Rye. Each release is named after a thoroughbred racehorse coming up in the Bourbon Lane Stables — the horse’s stats are even printed on the labels. So each issuance is a bit different, just like each racehorse is different. It’s a great story and they sell out every year. In 2016 they refurbished the Old Taylor Distillery (mothballed in 1972) and are now bottling their first completely in-house Spirits.
Pinhook Rye Humor is the second release fo a Straight Rye Whiskey from Pinhook. It’s a Spirited 95% Rye and 5% malted barley. There is no age statement, but by definition we know it’s at least two years old and our inside sources tell us that it’s aged for three years in new, charred oak. The final product is bottled at 48.5% ABV, so it has plenty of oomph for sipping.
Smartass Corner:
It’s fun that Pinhook names their Spirits after real horses. Rye Humor the horse is a beautiful, dark walnut-colored colt born on April 7th, 2016. This is his first season racing, and he is 16.1 hands tall. His current jockey is Brian Joseph Hernandez Jr. and he’s owned by Bourbon Lanes Stables.
