A delicious combination of Indian Single Malt and a dash of Scottish smoke.

Paul John Distilleries was founded by Paul P. John in 1992 in Goa, India. To say that their growth has been impressive is to seriously understate things because, in just twenty years, they have become one of the largest independent Spirits companies in the world. From their distillery in Goa, built in 1996, they serve up a broad range of products, including Wines, Brandies, Single Malts, Whiskies, and specialty Spirit brands.

Paul John Edited is an intriguing mix of two Whisky terroirs. Most of the barley came from the northern regions of India, but 15% came from Scotland, and it’s peated! That’s where the briny smoke (about 20-25ppm) in the dram’s character comes from. To give it extra complexity, Master Distiller Michael John matured it in ex-Bourbon casks. The peaty twist of Paul John Edited will delight Whisky connoisseurs and peat-loving flavor explorers.

Nose: Peat with a soft medicin...

Nose: Peat with a soft medicinal edge to the phenols. Iodine. Oak and the accompanying vanilla. Herbal. Mint. Mouth: Peat. Phenols again edging toward a medicinal note. Smoke. Oak. Finishes a bit harsh with notes of spice, vanilla, and oak, then fading to peat. Nice but a bit too medicinal for my tastes.
