Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 20 Year Old Lawrenceburg 1999

Julian Van Winkle III introduced the famous Pappy Van Winkle range in homage to his grandfather after having moved the bottling to the old Hoffman Distillery in Lawrenceburg in 1983, renaming it Old Commonwealth.

Using well-aged barrels from the distillery the now-legendary figure once so lovingly ran, the 20-year-old has become quite legendary, particularly after the theft of 65 three-bottle cases in 2013. It is also the expression that first brought the Van Winkle brand to prominence.

This 20 YO was produced at Old Commonwealth and bottled in 1999 right after Van Winkle switched from green to clear glass, but before they stopped bottling in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.

It is, as usual, incredibly hard to find and even harder to buy from any retailer.
