Old Elk Distillery is not "just" another start-up operation in Colorado. Serial entrepreneur Curt Richardson launched the dream seven years ago in Colorado Springs. And he has his right-hand man — Luis Gonzalez — as CEO. They’re both great guys, but Curt knows that a successful business is built on the talent of the team, and that’s why he recruited Greg Metze who worked at… ahem, a certain prolific distillery in Indiana (what is now MGP) for thirty-eight years, rising to the position of master distiller. The first thing that you need to know is that Old Elk Straight Rye Whiskey is 95% rye. The rest is malted barley with the sole purpose to goose the fermentation process. This five year-old dram is a pure expression of the style. And it’s not just us that are saying it. This dram is a 96 point rated, Gold Medal-winning wonder that was called the "Best American Rye Whiskey" at the International Whiskey Competition. Bottled at 50% ABV, it has the Whiskey stones to stand up to whatever you throw into the glass.
