A complex and balanced blend of well-aged Mount Gay Rums across the range of casks and stills.

Rum production is THE primary industry on the island of Barbados — the eastern-most island in the Caribbean. Mount Gay is not only the oldest Rum Distillery on the island, it is documented to be the oldest Rum Distillery in the world with land title papers stretching all the way back to 1703. Technically, the Distillery is independent, but Rémy Cointreau is a majority shareholder of the facility and controls the Mount Gay brand — and they do a very good job leaving them alone to create their brand of Caribbean magic.

Mount Gay XO has been around for a while… but then again it is brand new. The previous edition was a blend of Rums had a narrower range of agings. Brand new for 2020, Mount Gay XO Triple Cask Blend is a blend of Rums aged between five and seventeen years in a combination of cask types — ex-Bourbon, ex-Whiskey, and ex-Cognac. To add even more complexity, the stills are a combination of pot and column. And we really like the results. Tons of character, not too sweet, and with a great balance of spice and fruit notes.

Delicious

A delicious, complex rum. High quality. On the less sweet, darker side of rums, leaning bourbon-ish. You gets hints of all three, triple barrels. Really fantastic rum.

Let me preface this by saying ...

Let me preface this by saying I’m not some liquor snob. I can’t tell you all the notes, the palate, the distinct differences of the nose and lingering finish of anything. But what I can tell you is that if you have an ounce of pirate in your blood, you’ll ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS RUM. I’m writing this review cause I’m on my second bottle of this delicious dram. It’s worth the money. Now quit reading this and buy some.

Oak barrel predominant. Sweet fruit as well. Not a huge rum fan but this is good.
