Rum production is THE primary industry on the island of Barbados — the eastern-most island in the Caribbean. Mount Gay is not only the oldest Rum Distillery on the island, it is documented to be the oldest Rum Distillery in the world with land title papers stretching all the way back to 1703. Technically, the Distillery is independent, but Rémy Cointreau is a majority shareholder of the facility and controls the Mount Gay brand — and they do a very good job leaving them alone to create their brand of Caribbean magic.
Mount Gay 1703 Master Select Rum is named after the year that the Distillery was founded. That should tell you something about the nature of this particular special edition release — they are exceptionally proud of it.
Mount Gay 1703 Master Select Rum is a combination of signature Spirits aged from ten to thirty years on site in American oak casks. Each cask was personally selected by master Blander Allen Smith and combined into a strictly limited number of bottles. So, do yourself a favor and get at least one of these for yourself.
