A unique Straight Rye that’s finished in Port Wine casks and won Double Gold in 2019.

Once upon a time, the entrepreneur Marsha Milam visited a Kentucky warehouse and fell in love with the elusive art of Whiskey-making. She partnered with some of the world’s best Whiskey professionals: Whiskey expert and author Heather Greene, Whiskey veteran Marlene Holmes with 30 years of experience, and Master Brewer Jordan Osborne who brought 60 years of combined experience to the table. Impressive, right? They’re not about forming some exclusive Whiskey expert circle, though, as they always start making Whiskey with the consumer in mind. The team kickstarted their distilling operation in the Texas Hill Country and the rest is history. They have both smaller 300-gallon and a bigger 1,000-gallon copper-pot stills in the Texas Hill Country, plus classic column stills in Bardstown, Kentucky. They use their proprietary yeast and grain recipes and age their juice across 4 states to ensure a variety of flavors.

Sourced in Indiana, Milam & Greene Port Wine Cask Finish Straight Rye Whiskey rests in the Blanco rickhouse in Texas where it’s finished in old Port Wine casks from Portugal. The aging process under the Texas sun brings out unique and robust flavors on the rich and velvety palate. Some casks take longer than others to mature to perfection, however, but the team tastes them individually before batching them together. Savor it any way you like — neat, on the rocks, or in a Whiskey-forward cocktail like a Highball. Oh, and BTW, this one won Double Gold at the 2019 San Francisco International Spirits Competition AND it was awarded 97 points by Wine Enthusiast.

This was a pleasant surprise! I bought it on a whim when it showed up as a recommendation. Rich tasting and flavorful. Attend to the spiral. A delightful dram!

This is a decent rye but not my favorite. Was hoping the port finish would deliver more on the back end. The rye comes through and there is some spice and it is nice neat or on ice, but I was expecting more fruit. I can think of at least a few ryes I would rather have and keep in my home bar than this one at this price point.
