Malt Master indeed: this is better than anything you’ve ever tasted

Laphroaig distillery from the Islay of Slay, Schotland, calls itself “the most richly flavored of all Scotch Whiskies” and while it sure is a bold statement, we don’t think they’re too far off. Established as a small distillery in 1815 by brothers Alexander and Donald Johnston, it has grown through the years to become a monster with seven stills and a capacity of over 3m liters per annum. That doesn’t prevent Laphroaig from making meticulously crafted and hearty Single Malts. They still use its own floor maltings, they hand cut all the peat, and use strictly local peaty water of Kilbride Steam for distillation process. Laphroaig has throughout the years perfected each ingredient and each stage of the distillation process to make the finest Whisky possible.

In one of their finest and most collectable releases, the distillery is celebrating Ian Hunter, “the man who made Laphroaig what it is today.” A unique soul and a trailblazer in the industry, he is the one who popularized using oak casks and in-house floor maltings. Praise be! Nothing but the best would do to celebrate his memory, and The Ian Hunter Story 'Book 4 Malt Master' (fourth out of five releases) is an outstanding Single Malt that was matured for 34 years in-house in ex-Bourbon barrels and Oloroso Sherry casks and finished in Signature American white oak casks before being bottled at an ABV 46.2%. A sip like nothing you’ve ever tasted.
