The Hughes Distillery was founded in 1872 by John J. Hughes on a farmland in Pennsylvania. The farm was the main thing at the beginning with the distillery being just a side business for the farm. But the word about good Whiskey soon got around and the whole operation grew. Years later, Hughes' descendants rebuilt the distillery and changed the name to Hughes Bros. Then, the Prohibition happened and like many others, The Hughes Distillery was also forced to close its doors. Luckily, the founder's great-great-grandson Cyrus Kehyari brought Hughes Whiskey back to us and he kept it as true to the family recipe as possible. Respect.
Hughes Belle of Bedford is a Straight Rye Whiskey and a single-barrel offering. It’s crafted from a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley and aged for 8 years in #4 charred American white oak casks. Each barrel is then brought to proof, using the Hughes family estate artesian spring water. Bottled by hand at 104 proof and non-chill-filtered, get ready for gentle aromas of creamy vanilla and light butterscotch that lead you to a palate of big spice, brown sugar, and roasted coffee. This one is truly hard not to love whether you savor it neat, on the rocks, or use it as a high-end mixer.
