Another superior single cask release from Highland Park, aged in Sherry wood, and named after New York.

Highland Park is the most northerly distillery in Scotland on the Orkney Islands. Legend has it that it was founded by Whisky smuggler Magnus Eunson in the late 1700s and that he used his position as a church officer to conceal Whisky beneath the church pulpit. Don’t assume that "Highland Park" means their Whisky is made in the Highland style. In character, their Spirit is closer to a midpoint between Lowland and Islay Single Malts. Perhaps the most famous Whisky connoisseur of all time — journalist Michael Jackson — called Highland Park, "The greatest all-rounder in the world of Malt Whisky."

Highland Park’s Single Cask series is one of the coolest things we’ve seen in a long time. Each release is a true, unrepeatable single cask with only five hundred or so bottles created. And each one is given a special nickname indicating a specific region, being available in single case lots to selected liquor stores there. They come with names like "California" and "Nor’Easter."

New York has been blessed with a few. But we’ve got access to the latest — Highland Park Single Cask Series "Wall Street." This beauty was aged for thirteen years in cask #3002 — a first-fill American Sherry puncheon bottled at a full cask strength of 65.2% ABV without artificial color. The total number of bottles is just 583.

Smartass Corner:
A "puncheon" and a "butt" are usually the same size. It is a common size for fortified Wines like Port and Sherry. The size can vary a bit from location to location, but a standard size is ~475 liters/126 gallons.

Overall, an amazing mix of chocolate-covered cherries and mild smoke.
Eye: medium rim holds with syrupy legs. Coppered gold color.
Nose is full-on dark chocolate. Mild ethanol (from the proof) gives back of the throat heat. Chocolate pudding-like creaminess with some cherries at the end.
Palate: Chocolate-covered cherries with some smoky tingle that takes over the palate momentarily before giving way to the chocolate again. Full-bodied and custardy.
Finish: Smoke lingers over the chocolate for a long, long finish.
