Highland Park is the most northerly distillery in Scotland on the Orkney Islands. Legend has it that it was founded by Whisky smuggler Magnus Eunson in the late 1700s and that he used his position as a church officer to conceal Whisky beneath the church pulpit. Don’t assume that “Highland Park” means their Whisky is made in the Highland style. In character, their spirit is closer to a midpoint between Lowland and Islay Single Malts. Perhaps the most famous Whiskey connoisseur of all time — journalist Michael Jackson — called Highland Park, “The greatest all-rounder in the world of Malt Whisky.”

It’s hard to find a real-deal thirty year old Single Malt these days. The demand is so high that the temptation to crack up open those rare casks early is great. But Highland Park 30 Year Old is one of the rare exceptions. It’s a pure expression of singular Highland Park Single Malt mastery left to sit undisturbed in second-fill Sherry casks for three decades. And remember that Highland Park’s storage warehouses sit near the North Sea. After so many years a bit of the salt air made its way into the casks as a perfect pairing for the toffee notes in the spirit. It’s truly an element of the land where it was created.
