Did you know that Gooderham & Worts is older than the city of Toronto and the independent country of Canada? That’s right, it was founded in 1832 and according to reports, it soon became the largest distillery in the world in the late 19th century. But then William Gooderham died in 1881, World War I happened and a bunch of other historic events, so the Gooderham & Worts distillery changed hands and eventually moved production to the Hiram Walker distillery in Walkerville. With the distillery shuttered in the 1990s and the Gooderham & Worts name no longer gracing a whisky bottle, Corby Spirit & Wine relaunched the brand in 2015 to honor the historic distillery.
Gooderham & Worts Four Grain Whisky is a complex Canadian Whisky that was mostly aged in new American oak barrels with some of the juice aged in ex-Bourbon barrels. The mash bill consists mostly of double-column distilled corn and some pot-distilled rye, wheat, and barley. Bold, complex, and balanced is how we’d describe the tasting experience of sweet caramel, toffee, warming rye spice, mature oak, and a hint of green apple.
