These good Irish blokes have created a well-balanced, full-flavor expression of Irish awesomeness.

Glendalough is Gaelic for "valley of two lakes" and if you ever get to visit the small town of Glendalough, you will find just that. A beautiful hamlet in eastern Ireland with two lovely lakes nearby. If you are ever fortunate enough to visit this idyllic spot, you will also find the first new craft distillery in Ireland since… well, a gosh darn long time.

Founded by "five friends from Wicklow and Dublin," they began their journey creating Poitín — a traditional Irish distillate made in very small pot stills (sort of like small batch Irish Moonshine). From there it was a short and easy step into a variety of Irish Whiskies and Herbal-infused Gins as well. Everything is made by hand with a good measure of love.

The man credited with founding the town of Glendalough was a hermit named Saint Cóemgen — Saint Kevin for short. According to legend, he lived alone in the wilds for seven years before founding the town. And in that town he had them build seven churches. The lads at Glendalough Distillery claim this as the inspiration for aging their Single Malt Irish Whiskey for seven years.

Sometimes it is hard to tell where legend and truth diverge. But there is no doubt the results… these Irish blokes have created a well-balanced, full-flavor expression of Irish awesomeness. And their dedication to quality and craftsmanship puts the big production houses to shame.

I compared this to Jameson, Jameson Black Barrel, Writer's Tears Copper Pot, Writer's Tears Triple Distilled. Glendalough was the smoothest and tastiest out of that group of Irish Whiskies. I recommend highly.

This 7 year and the 13 year are my go too’s for Irish!! Hands down the best out there. Only difference between them is the taste of the Japanese mizunara oak on the 13 year. I recommend trying both.
