The Glasgow Distillery is both old and new. There was a distillery by that name way back in the day — 1770, that is. But wars, depressions, Prohibition, and other misfortunes led to its disappearing form history. But in 2014 the founding partners — Liam Hughes, Mike Hayward and Ian McDougall — reopened a new version of the historic distillery in the heart of Glasgow. They installed two new copper stills named Tara and Mhairi and set to work making Single Malt in the Dundashill section of Glasgow. Their first releases came out in 2019 to superlative reviews.
Glasgow 1770 The Original is THE foundational dram that they are building their lineup and reputation on in their signature "Fresh and Fruity" style. It made from 100% Scottish barley and water from the nearby Loch Katrine. It aged first in ex-Bourbon casks and then finished in virgin oak. This classic Lowland Spirit is then bottled without chill-filtration as an absolutely perfect 46% ABV. And even though it’s just been out for a year, this gorgeous dram has a handful of Gold and Silver Medals from major competitions.
