An eight year-old edition of the classic George Dickel Bourbon

George Dickel immigrated to the United States from Germany in 1844 where he started a small retail business. Within a few years he started buying regional Whiskies wholesale and reselling them to bars and restaurants. In 1888, Dickel’s company bought out one of his suppliers — the Cascade Hollow Distillery. The dark days of Prohibition forced them to close things down. When prohibition ended, the distillery was sold and the Bourbon renamed in honor of their founder. In 1956, the company returned to Tennessee, rebuilt the distillery, and adopted the Lincoln County process to become an official Tennessee Whisky. Today, the brand and distillery are owned by Diageo.

Did you know that June 14th is — and shall continue to be — National Bourbon Day in America? Here at Team Flaviar it’s an official holiday celebrated with donuts, songs, and much celebration into the wee hours of the evening. And this year to celebrate this most auspicious occasion, George Dickel announced the release of a new eight year-old edition of their signature Bourbon loveliness.

Like the rest of the core lineup, George Dickel 8 Year Old Bourbon Whiskey has their signature high-corn mash bill of 84% corn, 8% rye, and 8% malted barley. And yes, this Midwestern jungle juice was aged in new, charred white oak for a minimum of eight years before being bottled at a nearly perfect 45% ABV.

Second sip was more inviting that the first. Had it on the rocks and it was smooth with a little sweetness. Hard to find in my area, but would buy another bottle online.

this is one of my favorites when it comes to Bourbon. Went last year on the Bourbon trail and unfortunately, was unable to arrange a time for a tour at George Dickel. One of the local bars offered me a taste and knew I had to have this in my collection. Flaviar was the only place I could purchase as our Bourbon trail event was packed with tours so unable to stop off at local liquor stores to purchase. No one in the Vegas area carried this particular bottle so was excited when offered to purchase it through Flaviar. A refreshing warm tantalizing dram on its own after a hard days work!
