Only the best of barrels for Four Gate’s first ever Rye.
It was in 2018 when Bill Straub and Bob D'Antoni, both Whiskey enthusiasts, founded the Four Gate Whiskey Company in Kentucky and launched their mission to release très petits batches of unique combinations of Whiskey and finish barrels. And boy did they mean it when they said unique. Partnering with Kelvin Cooperage, a family-owned barrel supplier founded in 1963 in Scotland and currently based in Louisville, the combinations of quality Whiskey blends and used barrels they put together are so exotic it almost seems like you didn't read it right. From Bourbon finished in Cognac and Dark Rum casks to Bourbon finished in Orange Curaçao and Gin casks, there is really no idea too wild for Four Gate and they make it work.
Eclectic finish barrels might be what Four Gate is most famous for, but their first ever Rye, presented without barrel finishing, is something special as well. Well, what makes this one so different from other Ryes on the market, you ask. For River Kelvin Rye, only the best barrels of 7YO Indiana Straight Rye Whiskey were selected and blended. And you can definitely tell. With a mash bill of 95% Rye and 5% Malted Barley, the result is wonderfully spicy, but also fruity, but also refreshing. Bottled at 113.2 proof and non-chill filtered, there are exactly 1,484 bottles of this bad boy out there.
