Honoring the father of Single Barrels. RIP (1919 - 2013).

The Buffalo Trace Distillery which is located in Frankfort, Kentucky has been making Bourbon Whiskey for over 200 years. In all these years they've never stopped producing Whiskey - not even in the days of Prohibition, when they were allowed to produce "medicinal" Whiskey, khm. In the past decade Buffalo Trace has won more awards than any other distillery in the World, including seven "Distillery of the Year" titles.

The Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel Bourbon is named after Buffalo Trace master distiller Elmer T. Lee, a WWII veteran and the father of single barrel bottling. Lee had worked at the distillery for over 4 decades and continued selecting the barrels even after retirement. He’s recently passed away, but left behind a legacy worth retelling.

Lee’s single barrel Bourbon is bottled from an individual ageing barrel, not from the blend of many. It has no age statement, but it is assumed the average age is 9-14 years. Elmer T. Lee Single Barrel Bourbon has won Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2013, and countless others over the years.

Easily one of my favorite bourbons. Would be my daily drinker if it was easier to find and wasn't so expensive on the secondary market

Elmer T Lee has a very similar...

Elmer T Lee has a very similar profile to Blanton's with a few exceptions. The first is that it is more prominent on the citrus and the cinnamon and nutmeg are more subdued. It does have a complex flavor, It is "smoother" than Blanton's in that the oak notes on the finish are more rounded and a little bit easier to drink neat
