Altena has delivered another winning Tequila — meet Tesoro Extra Añejo Tequila.
Altena Distillery has been operated by the Camarena family since… well, forever. Their first distillery was destroyed during the Mexican Revolution, but they rebuilt in 1937 near the town of Arandas in the heart of Tequila country. They still do Tequila magic using old-school techniques with masonry ovens and an ancient tahona mill stone. Today, La Altena distillery is operated by grandson and master distiller Carlos Camarena and they only make the good stuff, including premium brands El Tesoro, Tapatio, and Ocho. Muchas gracias mis amigos!
There is a brand new — and old — addition to the core lineup at El Tesoro. The first barrels of El Tesoro Extra Añejo Tequila were laid down by Don Filipe J. Camarena — the late farther of the current master distiller. Like all El Tesoro Tequilas, the Extra Añejo is 100% pure, estate-grown, blue agave that has been slow roasted and stone ground. In this case it has been aged for up to five years in ex-Bourbon casks. Another interesting thing is that the Tequila is distilled to proof. That means no extra water is added after aging and more flavor in every bottle.
Smartass corner:
In Spanish, "El Tesoro" means "The Treasure" — a fitting name for this premium Spirit.
