Dos Hombres Tobala Mezcal

Dos Hombres' second release is a limited-edition Mezcal that dials down the smoke in favor of fresh floral notes.

If you’re a Breaking Bad buff, you’ll remember the Season 4 episode aptly named "Salud," where half of the cartel drops dead after drinking a ridiculously expensive Zafiro Añejo Tequila. While this emerald Spirit was invented because no sane distillery would agree on a product placement that ends up killing people, the guys who played the most famous meth cooks in TV history came up with a very real, very delicious, and very not-poisonous Mezcal. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul posted a picture of two donkeys on their Instagram accounts, simply saying "Soon!" and while we thought we’re getting a buddy cop comedy with two sheriffs riding asses, we got something even better: artisanal Spirit from Oaxaca called Dos Hombres Espadin Mezcal. Now, the two hombres are Mr. White and Mr. Pinkman.

Following in the wake of the Espadin Joven Mezcal is their second release, and this time it's a limited edition. The Tobala Mezcal is crafted in the same village of San Luis del Rio in Oaxaca, except it's made with Tobala agaves ― this lot took a whopping 25 years to fully mature. It's distilled by Gregorio Velasco using all those traditional methods involving machetes, horse-drawn mills, and copper stills. What leaves the greatest mark on this Spirit are the copal trees growing in the vicinity, spraying the agaves with fragrant pollen, and infusing the final product with floral aromas. Light on the smoky side of things, it's a fresh and fruity Spirit that's immensely pleasant to sip.
