In 1785 the banks of Scotland’s River Teith scored itself a brand new cotton mill. And through the following years, that cotton mill scored itself an entire self-contained village of willing workers and their families. This village got named Deanston — apparently, a very straightforward derivation from the phrase “Dean’s town.” For a couple of following decades, the mill diligently produced cotton, just as one would expect it to. But a series of very fortunate events cut into the weaving of its destiny, remaking the place into a Whisky Distillery. With the river being one of the cleanest water sources in Scotland, this ex-mill turned out to be a real paradise for Whisky making. And to this day, this unique distillery remains the only one in the entire of Scotland that is completely self-sustaining in the electricity department, thanks to the leftover mills and dams.
And as it went for the history of this distillery, so it goes for this limited-edition Deanston Single Malt. A series of fortunate events led the Deanston team into finding some Pinot Noir casks, and they thought it smart to use those casks as a finishing touch for their Single Malt Scotch Whisky. The result? A wonderful 17-year-old that masterfully combines the Pinot-Noir derived fruity and honey-laced aromas with that typical Highland-style character. Bottled at a hearty 50% ABV, non-chill filtered and seriously delicious.
