Royal Spiciness.
Crown Royal is “THE” Canadian Whisky. Sure, there are those who might argue with that from a preference perspective, but no one can argue that this is the top selling brand of Canadian Whisky in the world. Each day, their Manitoba distillery alone consumes 10,000 bushels of grain and 3.4 million litres of water. At any given point in time, there are more than two million barrels of Whisky aging in a complex of 46 warehouses.
On top of all that, they do a darn good job of producing a consistently high quality, clean drinking, Canadian styled spirit that has won the hearts of many a Whisky lover. And their famous velvet bags embracing each bottle are collected and re-used by a legion of their raving fans.
So, what makes Crown Royal Extra Rare XR so special? Well, as we’ve mentioned, Crown Royal makes a LOT of Whisky. They have several distilleries cranking out quality product day and night. But Crown Royal XR is all produced in one spot, at the small batch LaSalle Distillery on Montreal Island, and the “where” makes all of the difference indeed. All the folks in Canada have known for years that there is something about that spot that makes the Whisky a tad bit smoother, and a tad bit sweeter.
This stuff can be hard to get your hands on. Right… that’s what “rare” means. Heck, they completely ran out of the stuff a few years ago. But if you are a fan of the Crown Royal line up, or even just a fan of Canadian Whisky, this should be on your list. It is light and smooth and spot on spicy in all of the right places, an embodiment of what Canadian Whisky really should be.
