Another Special Release from Cragganmore that is a brilliant delight.
1869 was a very good year. Mahatma Gandhi was born, Leo Tolstoy published War and Peace, and Cragganmore Distillery was founded by John Smith near the waters of the Craggan Burn. Smith was an experienced distiller who had served as manager at The Macallan, Glenlivet, Glenfarclas, and Wishaw. Their Whiskies have been included in premium blends since day one, and their Single Malt releases are followed by a legion of fans. Today they are part of the Classic Malts range.
Each year, Diageo issues a handful of "Special Releases." It is considered a place of honor to be in that release. Cragganmore has made the list many times, and a lot of folks think that the 2016 was one of the best.
Cragganmore Natural Cask Strength Limited Release 2016 does not have an age statement because it is a Single Malt assembled from superior aging casks of various vintages selected from the warehouse by hand. Those Spirits were aged in several cask types include ex-Sherry, refill Bourbon, and reconditioned Bourbon. They only made 4,932 bottles of the stuff at cask strength of 55.7% ABV, but we came across a hidden stash so you can still get one if you act fast.
