A blend of El Salvadoran Rums combined by the deft hands of Rum master Gabriela Ayala with a floral profile.

Ingenio Cabaña of El Salvador is a one hundred year-old sugar mill in the heart of El Salvador. For generations they had been producing refined sugar products and selling the molasses to Rum producers. Then, in 2014, they opened their own distillery on site — The Licorera Cihuatán Distillery — and began producing and aging their own Spirits.

Kay Nikté is the ancient Mayan Festival of the Flowers still celebrated by villages and tribes across Central America to honor the moon goddess. Licorera Cihuatán Distillery enlisted maestra ronera (Rum master) Gabriela Ayala to craft a special limited edition Rum inspired by the legend and wild jungle flowers of the region.

Cihuatán Nikté Aged Reserve is a blend of four Rums aged between twelve and fifteen years in a combination of ex-Bourbon and virgin American oak casks. All the Rums hailed from the local region — El Paisnal, San Salvador, El Salvador. This edition is limited to a single run of 17,914 bottles at an impressive 47.5% ABV.

Smartass Corner 1:
“Cihuatán” is a native Nahuat word that translates roughly as “beside the sleeping woman.” “The sleeping woman” refers to the shape of a mountain range that edges the valley and when viewed from the correct angle looks like… well, you get it.

Smartass Corner 2:
The Cihuatán valley is the site of an important Mayan archeological site. It was a large city founded more than a thousand years ago and marks the furthest south that the Mayan Mesoamerican culture extended to the best of our knowledge.

Appearance / Color
Warm Copper

Nose / Aroma / Smell
The aroma is sweet with notes of melted marshmallow, vanilla flan, and a nice jasmine.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
The flavor profile is soft — hiding its higher ABV — and easy-sipping with notes of bread pudding, more jasmine, rose water, herbs, and butterscotch.

Finish
The finish is long but still soft with sweet English toffee.
