Calumet Farm 16 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is a wise 16 year old kid straight off the Single Rack Black premium Bourbon line. This mighty expression of the Calumet Farm Bourbon clan is the most matured one and shows off its highest proof yet—a mighty 53% ABV to taste alongside bold flavors of saturated oak, warm rye spice, cherries and freshly baked bagels matched perfectly with an elegant toasted finish. Its frisky mash bill contains 74% Corn, 18% Rye, and 8% Malted Barley, making for a wonderfully varied and venerable Bourbon.

Rich mahogany with dark red shadows and golden highlights.

Nose / Aroma / Smell
Woody-char with smoke, toasted almonds, fresh-cut summer hay, citrus with orange flavors and a mix of dark floral cherry scents.

Flavor / Taste / Palate
Saturated oak, warm rye spice, cherries, dark fruits, baking spice with freshly baked bagels, melted toffee and light corn kernels.

Finish

A little overrated

I don't know maybe I was expecting more because I truly enjoy the Calumet lower age statements but this came in too hot. The caramel and toffee are definitely there but they are overshadowed by too much ethanol. I usually take my sippers neat but this one benefits from some ice/water. Overall it is still very good but for the price point you will find better alternatives.
