Bladnoch Distillery was founded in 1817 by John and Thomas McClelland. Since then it has been merged and acquired a host of times — suffering the slings and arrow of outrageous fortune and occasional mis-management. The Bladnoch distillery was mothballed from around 2010 to around 2017 when Australian entrepreneur David Prior bought the entire property — literally lock, stock, and barrels — and has installed all new equipment and is issuing forth releases from inventory and new-make production. Interestingly, it is one of only six remaining Lowland Single Malt distilleries that remain, and it is the furthest south in Scotland.
Bladnoch Adela 15 Year Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is created from the distillery’s old stocks that were aged for at least 15 years in Oloroso Sherry butts. It was released in 2017 to celebrate the reopening of the distillery. It’s non-chill filtered and contains zero artificial colorings, all the beautiful hues you see come from American and Spanish oak. What about the flavors? Chocolatey and rich with notes of strawberry, licorice, and clove leading the way. Delicious.
